Gerald Gene Goldman

Gerald Gene Goldman, 81, passed away April 3, 2016 at home under the care of family and Hospice.

Born in 1934 in Decatur, Illinois, he was the son of Jack and Ella Goldman.   He was a premiere basketball player, and as an 8th grader was moved up to the high school varsity team. He attended U. of Illinois, studying architecture and was a member of Alpha Rho Chi. He graduated 1959 in business administration from Millikin University. He moved to Illinois and Iowa, where he was sales engineer and rep with Metal Parts and Equipment for 40 years. Jerry was a member of the American Foundry Association, board member of St. Luke’s Hospital/Cedar Rapids Iowa, and president of Cedar Rapids Country Club. Over his lifetime he contributed to numerous community organizations.

Jerry moved to Savannah, Georgia where he enjoyed 21 years of retirement playing golf and tennis, travel, reading, Nantucket basket making, enjoying his ParTee boat, biking, and daily fitness center workouts.   He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and true friend to many. Jerry enjoyed coaching youth sports activities as his children grew up, and he loved to follow his grandchildren’s activities and sports. He was a gentle, sweet, and caring gentleman.   Jerry and Suzy enjoyed their extensive travels, especially Italy, Australia, New Zealand, and Green Lake, Wisconsin.

Jerry was predeceased by his parents, his first wife, Anne, and brother, Jack.

Jerry is survived by his wife and best friend, Suzanne, of 41 years, and his children Catherine Goldman of Durango, Colorado, David Goldman of Houston, Texas, Andrew (Ann) Goldman of Boulder, Colorado, John (Pam) Robison of Northbrook, Illinois, Kristin (Pat) Dannelly of Clarksville, Maryland, and Jeffrey (Ausra) Robison of Chicago, Illinois; and his twelve grandchildren, Samantha, Alexandra, Ryann, Kate, Hanna, Daniele, Reeder, Cyndi, Jack, Owen, Jack, and Mick.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 21, 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 3 West Ridge Road, Savannah, GA. 31411.

The family especially appreciates Dr. Tom Hogan and the medical specialists at Memorial Hospital, as well as Savannah Hospice and the CNAs, who so ably tended to his at home needs.
